Quantities

Order statuses and stock movements

The following information applies to PrestaShop 9, 8 and 1.7.

Quantities in PrestaShop

In PrestaShop, there are several types of stock quantities:

- the physical quantity: this is the quantity in stock.

- the available quantity: this is the quantity remaining available for sale, i.e. the physical quantity MINUS unshipped customer orders (the reserved quantity).

This information can be found in the Catalog / Stock menu.

The quantities visible in the POS, the Shop Manager, the BO product page, and the stock status all display the available quantity.

This is normal since some products have already been sold, even if they are still physically present in stock.

All of this is closely linked to online order statuses (Shop Settings menu / Orders / Order Statuses in the PrestaShop back office).

An online paid order "reserves" the purchased product quantity (meaning it can theoretically no longer be sold). However, this reservation does NOT modify the physical stock until the order goes through a validating status (generally via the "Shipped" or "Delivered" status).

(Of course, POS orders immediately update the physical stock.)

DEFAULT order statuses

The following order statuses generate an outgoing stock movement (physical quantity modified).

The following order statuses "reserve" a quantity; they do NOT generate any stock movement on the physical quantity, only the available quantity is updated.

The following order statuses generate an incoming stock movement in the physical quantity (return to stock).

For the physical quantity to be updated by a given status, the option "Mark the associated order as shipped" must be checked in the status settings.

Warning: when modifying a status, do so carefully in accordance with your PrestaShop provider. Make sure that all statuses following the modified one also have this box checked (otherwise there is a risk of stock going back and forth)!

Also note that this change is NOT retroactive.
