Walk-in customer

As the name suggests, the walk-in customer is an unidentified customer. They are nonetheless considered a real customer in PrestaShop terms (every order must be associated with a customer).

The POS cannot function without one. The walk-in customer is therefore defined during the point of sale configuration (see the POS Configuration tutorial). It is optionally possible to rename them in the customer record. It is also possible to use an existing PrestaShop customer.

Favourite customers

The POS allows quick access to certain customers (in addition to the walk-in customer, which is in the favourites list by default).

These can be "type" customers with certain characteristics, generally with permanent discounts on prices. You could imagine a "VIP" customer (unidentified) and a "Friend" customer (unidentified). Each would be associated with a PrestaShop group with a specific discount.

To add to the favourites list, see the POS Configuration tutorial, under "Add favourite customers". Customers defined this way will appear directly in the list when the customer search popup opens.

Create / Identify / Edit a customer

This can be done from the POS main menu or via the "Customer" icon in the top right of the POS (the walk-in customer is always identified by default).

A popup opens with the following options:

1. Create a new customer

2. Identify/Edit an existing customer

Please note: an identified customer is the same in the POS and for online sales. All their details and history are therefore visible in both the POS and their online account.

1. Create a new customer

Click the "New Customer" button at the bottom right.

A second popup opens for quick customer creation: only the First Name, Last Name and Email fields are required. Once filled in, click the "Save" button. You can complete the customer record with the Address and Groups tabs (PrestaShop groups).

Please note:

- if the customer does not have an email or does not want to provide one, the blue "Generate" link lets you create a unique email (required for PrestaShop)

- if the email entered already exists in the customer list, the customer will not be created a second time, and a message will notify you.

2. Identify / Edit an existing customer

Favourite customers are directly available.

Otherwise, you can search for a customer by all or part of their last name, first name or email from 3 characters (press the Enter key to start the search). If B2B mode is enabled, you can also search by company name.

In the displayed list, click the "Choose" button on the right to identify the customer, or click the business card icon to view or edit their details.

The customer record contains the following information:

- Contact information

- Addresses

- Groups

- Orders / Purchased products / Credit notes:

List of all their orders in-store and online (with the option to load them in the POS);

List of all purchased products (with direct access to the product sheet and the option to add to cart);

List of available credit notes (with the original amount and the remaining amount)

- Pending tickets: to view all unfinished carts in-store and online (with the option to load them in the POS)

- Vouchers: view and apply all available vouchers (issued to everyone AND specific to the customer), including gift cards.

- Loyalty
