Gift Vouchers
Gift voucher management issued by the store follows PrestaShop's standard operation. It works according to the following
- A gift voucher is a product (often virtual) to which VAT is always applied (if the store is subject to it).
- When you sell a gift voucher, it is converted into a discount code usable in-store or online.
(The gift voucher code is in fact a cart rule automatically generated with a specific code.)
It can be used multiple times.
Accounting: when a gift voucher is sold, its value is added to the day's revenue and the total VAT collected. Therefore, when it is used by the customer, neither the revenue nor the VAT on the sold products will be applied a 2nd time. An interface allows you to view, over a given period, used or unused gift vouchers and export them in CSV format to manage your accounting.
Please note: the gift voucher is not assigned to any customer upfront. It will be linked to the customer who uses it for the first time.
Creating a Gift Voucher
1. Variable-price gift voucher
Handy, it allows you to enter the desired amount at the time of purchase at the checkout (it cannot be sold online). Of course, it can then be used anywhere.
The criteria to meet are:
- a reference starting with KDO (in UPPERCASE) (this is the product reference, not its name)
- a selling price of 0
- a large stock quantity
Please note: it is for example possible to enter €100, which will create a discount code for €100. Or €20 in the amount and 5 in the quantity, which will create 5 discount codes for the same total.
2. Fixed-price gift voucher
The criteria to meet are:
- a reference starting with KDO (in UPPERCASE) (this is the product reference, not its name)
- a selling price of your choice
- a large stock quantity
Selling a Gift Voucher
- Add the gift voucher like any other product
- If it is a variable price, manually enter the desired amount
- Process payment
⇒ This triggers the creation of the gift voucher, which appears on the receipt.
Using a Gift Voucher
- Add products to the cart
- Use the Global Discount area (bottom left) to scan the gift voucher or enter its reference
⇒ The gift voucher amount is deducted from the total price.
- Simply select the payment method and process payment (if the total is €0, any payment method can be chosen to validate the sale).
If the gift voucher amount has not been fully used, a new gift voucher (with a different code) will be printed at the end of the receipt, with the updated amount.
Reminder: the gift voucher is linked to the customer who uses it for the first time.
